If so, this is a good time to remind those with pets in the home to be careful when using the popular plastic Easter “grass” to fill that basket. Like Christmas tinsel, pets are not able to digest these plastic strands, and it can bunch up in your pet’s digestive tract causing intestinal blockages which may require surgery.  Strands of the grass can actually get wrapped around the base of your pet’s tongue causing injury. While plastic Easter grass can be a hazard to dogs or cats, it is especially enticing to cats that are drawn to play with the strands.

San Antonio | Pets dress up for Fiesta Fido event

It's mostly for fun, but also for a good cause. Dogs and owners competed for honors at the Fiesta Fidos and Fashion event at North Star Mall on Sunday, benefiting the San Antonio Humane Society. Eleven dogs and their owners were vying for Best Dressed Fiesta Fido, and the 2012 El Rey Fido and his court were informally presented. The 10th annual El Rey Fido Coronation is set for 10 a.m. on April 14 at the Grand Hyatt. The event is free and open to the public. Fiesta returns April 19-29.

According to the veterinary clinic, approximately 1 out of every 3 pets will go missing at some point in their lives. Of these missing pets, 90% will never be reunited with their owners because of the pet's lack of proper identification. The Baton Rouge veterinary clinic provides the HomeAgain microchip for pets. The procedure requires no anesthesia or post-operative care, and costs approximately $45, which includes a one-time fee for lifetime inclusion in the HomeAgain database.
